The Tzeltal Maya artisans model clay by hand and then fire the pottery with firewood in the open air hearths which is a pre-Hispanic technique. Pots, water jugs, tubs, flower pots, and animal figures are products of their ancient tradition of mixing dirt and water, modeling the clay, drying it and firing it; the first act in the creation of the Maya universal vision.
